Getting Around
Lancaster County is not walkable in the way a city is. Downtown Lancaster City is walkable, and Lititz has a walkable main street — but Amish Country, the barn venues, and most wineries require a car. Include transportation guidance in your wedding website.
Rideshare (Uber and Lyft) operates in Lancaster City but is unreliable in rural areas, especially late at night after a reception. For the reception itself, many couples arrange shuttle service between downtown Lancaster hotels and the venue. This is standard practice at most barn venues and we strongly recommend it for any venue more than 10 minutes from the main hotel cluster.
Seasonal Timing: What Each Season Offers
Lancaster County wedding season runs May through October, and each part of the season has a genuinely different character:
- May–June — Perfect weather, green farmland, early summer wildflowers. Best overall season for guests visiting for the first time.
- July–August — Hot and humid. Central Market still in full swing. Recommend morning activities and evening-focused itineraries. Beer gardens and outdoor dining come into their own.
- September–October — The best time to be in Lancaster County. Harvest season, early fall foliage, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and some of the most photogenic light of the year.
